Can Claude take meeting notes?
Not on its own. Claude has no recorder and joins no calls, so it can't capture a meeting as it happens. What Claude does well: turning a transcript into notes
Claude is genuinely good at meeting notes once it has the words. Give it a transcript and it'll pull out the decisions, list the action items with owners, draft the follow-up email, and summarize the call in whatever shape you ask for. It reads plain text, Markdown, .vtt caption files, PDFs, and Word documents.
You can also hand Claude a template and it'll follow it, meeting after meeting, so every write-up looks the same. That consistency is the part people miss most when they leave a dedicated notes tool: your own format, applied every time, instead of one vendor's house style.
What Claude cannot do: capture the meeting
Claude cannot record. It has no microphone access, it doesn't join your Zoom or Google Meet as a participant, and it can't listen to a call in the background. There's no first-party Claude meeting recorder and no bot that shows up in the attendee list.
So the transcript has to come from somewhere. Today most people get it one of two ways: they switch on their meeting app's own transcription and download the file afterward, or they run a separate recorder.
